KAIWEETS True-RMS clamp meter, 1000 A with inrush review

The highest current range here at 1000 A AC and DC, with an inrush mode for motor starting currents and VFD and low-impedance modes for drives and ghost voltages.

What the figures leave us with The most capable clamp here on function, and the one whose missing category rating is hardest to overlook.

A clamp specified for motors and drives, and silent on the specification that places it.

What the manufacturer publishes

Measurement of 1000 A AC and DC current, 750 V AC and 1000 V DC voltage, frequency, duty cycle, resistance, capacitance and diodes, with true-RMS. An inrush current function, stated to help locate a starting problem in a motor or a control cabinet. A built-in non-contact voltage detector and an LED torch. Variable-frequency drive filtering (VFD) and low-impedance (LoZ) modes for measurements on drives and on circuits carrying induced voltage.

The two modes that separate this from a cheaper clamp

VFD filtering strips the switching frequency of a drive out of the measurement, leaving the fundamental. Without it, a clamp on a drive output reports a number that corresponds to nothing. LoZ loads the circuit enough to collapse an induced phantom voltage, which is what stops you chasing a live conductor that is not live.

Both are specialist, both are the reason this costs what it does, and neither appears on any other clamp in this hub.

The gap

A 1000 V DC range implies work on installations where transients are exactly the risk a category rating describes. The listing does not carry one.

What it has, and what it lacks

Strengths

  • 1000 A on both AC and DC, the widest range in this hub
  • An inrush mode, which captures the starting current of a motor instead of averaging it away
  • A VFD filter mode for variable-frequency drives, and a LoZ mode that kills ghost voltages
  • Non-contact voltage detection and an LED torch
  • Voltage ranges stated: 750 V AC and 1000 V DC

Compromises

  • No measurement category published, despite a 1000 V DC range
  • Not found on the British market
  • The second most expensive clamp here

What gets asked here

What is inrush current and why does it need its own mode?

A motor starting draws several times its running current for a fraction of a second. A normal clamp averages that away and shows nothing unusual. An inrush mode captures the peak, which is how a starting fault is located. KAIWEETS states an inrush function for motors and control cabinets.

What is LoZ for?

Low impedance mode loads the circuit slightly, which collapses the phantom voltage induced on a floating conductor. Without it, a high-impedance meter reads a convincing voltage on a wire that is not connected to anything.

What category is it rated to?

None appears in this listing, which is a notable omission on an instrument offering a 1000 V DC range. Read the manual and follow it.

What buyers actually choose

Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 100.

The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.
