Fluke Insulation multimeter, 500 and 1000 V review

A combined insulation tester and digital multimeter with 500 V and 1000 V test voltages and a 600 MΩ range, at the top of this hub by a factor of four.

What the figures leave us with Two instruments in one, behind a listing of three lines. The specifications live in the documentation, not on the page.

The most expensive instrument on this site, and one of the shortest listings.

What the manufacturer publishes

Insulation testing at 500 V and 1000 V, with a range to 600 MΩ. Equipped with functions to protect the user. Additional tools or attachments included. Compact storage.

The combination is the product

An insulation tester alone is a single-purpose instrument that spends most of its life in a case. Combined with a multimeter it becomes the instrument that is already in your hand when the insulation question comes up — which is the argument for the format, and it is a real one for anyone doing installation work daily.

What a buyer cannot read here

No category rating, no accuracy figures, no continuity range. Fluke publishes full technical data elsewhere; what is on this page is less than the PeakTech at a fifth of the price offers. That is a statement about the listing, not about the instrument.

What it has, and what it lacks

Strengths

  • Combines an insulation tester and a full multimeter in one instrument
  • Two test voltages, 500 and 1000 V, covering fixed installation work
  • Stated as equipped with functions to protect the user
  • On sale across all six markets

Compromises

  • The listing publishes three lines and no category rating
  • Only two test voltages, against four on the PeakTech and five on the Voltcraft
  • Four to fifteen times the price of everything else in this hub

What gets asked here

Why combine an insulation tester with a multimeter?

Because the two measurements happen in the same visit. An installation check needs voltage, continuity and insulation, and a combined instrument means one tool, one set of leads and no swapping mid-job.

Is 600 MΩ enough?

It is a lower ceiling than the PeakTech's 4000 MΩ or the Voltcraft's 20 GΩ. For pass-or-fail testing against a minimum requirement it is ample; for tracking a slow degradation over years, a higher ceiling gives you more to watch.

What does Fluke publish here?

The test voltages, the range, that it has user protection functions, and that additional tools or attachments are included. No category rating appears in the listing.
