What you are actually paying for
Range is not it — the HANMATEK in this hub states the same 100 m (328 ft) for a sixth of the price. The difference is what happens after the beep. With a Bluetooth meter and its app, a measurement lands in a plan; with any other meter, it lands in your handwriting and gets typed twice. The transcription step is where measurement errors are actually introduced, and removing it is the argument for the price.
The end piece is the underrated part
Every laser meter has a reference edge, and every reference edge assumes a flat surface to press against. Inside a window reveal, in a groove, or off the edge of a step, there is no such surface, and the usual workaround is to measure to something else and subtract. Leica’s fold-out end piece gives the tool a defined stop in exactly those geometries.

Leica states it allows precise measurement from corners, grooves and recesses. A meter with a flat back has to be pressed against a flat face; the end piece gives it a defined stop in geometry where there is no flat face to use.
