A car that will not start has three plausible causes: a battery that cannot hold charge, a starter drawing too much, or a charging system that is not replacing what is used. Testing only the battery answers one third of the question, and replacing a healthy battery because the alternator is failing is the classic outcome.
It has clamps, not a cradle. It will not tell you anything about the AA cells in the drawer, and the household testers above will tell you nothing about a car. They share a category name and almost nothing else.

Cold cranking amps — the current a battery can deliver at low temperature, and the figure printed on the battery itself. A tester reports a measured CCA against the rated one, which is how a tired battery is identified before it strands you.
The old method was a load test: draw a large current and watch the voltage sag, which is slow and hard on a weak battery. Conductance measurement infers condition from the battery's internal characteristics in seconds.
TOPDON states three system tests — battery, starting and charging — so the charging output is included. That is what separates "the battery is flat" from "something keeps flattening it".
