Pin and pinless meters answer two different questions · review
RDINSCOS Pinless masonry moisture meter, 40 mm (1.57 in) review
A pinless masonry meter reading to 40 mm (1.57 in) with a rounded probe shaped for corners, joints and narrow spaces, with hold, max and min functions.
What the figures leave us with A competent pinless meter with a well-shaped probe and nothing published about its accuracy.
A masonry meter built around where the damp actually is.
What the manufacturer publishes
Non-destructive depth measurement to 40 mm (1.57 in), working without needles. Early detection of hidden moisture damage, stated as helping to avoid structural damage. Hold, max and min functions for storing and comparing readings. A spherical probe enabling precise measurements in corners, joints and narrow spaces.
Junctions are where water goes
Damp does not distribute itself evenly across a wall. It arrives at a bridge, a failed joint, a bad detail at the floor, and it concentrates there. A meter that cannot be pressed into those places is measuring the wrong parts of the wall, however good its electronics.
What it does not tell you
Nothing here identifies a cause. A high reading at the base of a wall is consistent with rising damp, a leaking pipe, a failed damp-proof course and splash-back from a hard surface outside, and no meter separates them. Compare against a known-dry area, record what you find, and hand the interpretation to someone qualified.

What gets asked here
Why is the probe shape a specification?
Moisture concentrates at junctions — where a wall meets a floor, along a mortar joint, in a corner. A flat sensor plate cannot make contact there. A rounded probe can, which is why both pinless meters in this hub have one.
Does it compensate for material?
The listing does not state material scales. The GERUI pin meter here publishes seven; this one publishes none, so its readings are best used as comparisons rather than absolute values.
What is max/min for?
Sweeping a wall and capturing the highest reading found, rather than trying to watch the display while moving. It is the right way to find a damp patch rather than to characterize one.

Wood 5–50% · building materials 1.5–33% · hold · auto-off after 3 minutes
A handheld detector publishing two separate measuring ranges — 5 to 50% for wood and 1.5 to 33% for building materials — with a hold function for readings taken out of sight.
Best for: Quick checks on wood and masonry where the comparison between two spots is the answer.
A pinless meter with a ball sensor reading to a stated 40 mm (1.57 in) depth, showing DRY, MID or WET alongside a value, with an adjustable moisture alarm.
Best for: Surveying a finished wall or floor, where holes are not acceptable and depth matters.
