The measurement that leaves the instrument
Two Leica instruments appear here, and neither is sold on the measurement itself.
Removing the transcription step. The DISTO D2 sends readings over Bluetooth into an app; the Rod Eye 160 reports the offset as a number on displays at the front and back of the receiver. Both address the same problem: a measurement written on a notepad is a measurement typed twice, and the second typing is where the error goes.
The DISTO’s fold-out end piece is the underrated part — it gives the meter a defined stop in corners and grooves, where a flat back has nothing to press against.
Published tolerances. Neither listing states an accuracy figure, on instruments where that is the specification most likely to be asked about.
