The plate that measures as well as reveals.

What the manufacturer publishes

Improved visibility of the laser line or point, with a special reflective target film stated to increase visibility. Inch and centimeter displays with a central zero point, described as easy to read and mark. Several mounting methods: magnets for attaching to metal studs, a hole for a hook, and a back stand.

The zero point changes what the plate is for

A plain target plate answers “where is the line”. A plate with a marked zero answers “how far is the line from my mark”, which is the question that actually comes up when setting a datum or transferring a height.

Three mountings, three situations

Magnets for steelwork, a hook hole for anything with a nail in it, and a stand for a floor or a bench. Between them there is almost nowhere a target cannot be placed without a spare hand, which is the practical difference from a plate you have to hold.

What gets asked here

What is a central zero point for?

It gives the plate a datum. Instead of reading where the line falls on an arbitrary scale, you place the zero on your mark and read the offset directly — which is what turns the plate from a visibility aid into a measuring aid.

Reflective film or plain tint?

A tint filters; a reflective film returns the beam towards you as well. Huepar states a special reflective target film increasing visibility, which is a step beyond the plain colored plastic of the cheaper plates.

Can I use it with a red laser?

It is stated as a green target. A green-tuned plate does very little for a red beam.
