Stabila BM 150 pocket tape, 3 m (10 ft) review
A compact 3 m (10 ft) tape whose distinguishing feature is a window in the top of the case, so internal measurements — a window reveal, a door opening — are read directly instead of by adding the case length.
What the figures leave us with The fitter's tape. If most of your measurements are inside something, this removes the arithmetic that goes wrong.
A short tape built around one specific measurement.
What the manufacturer publishes
A 3 m (10 ft) tape with an integrated viewing window — TOP READ — allowing direct reading of internal dimensions such as the clear width of a window or door opening. A compact form described as comfortable to grip, with a metal clip for a belt. A break-proof ABS case with a shock-absorbing softgrip jacket. A resistant lacquer protecting the scale, and red tens figures for quick orientation.
The addition that goes wrong
Every pocket tape has its case length printed on the back, precisely because internal measurements need it added. It is a two-second sum and it is wrong surprisingly often — the case length is read once and remembered wrongly, or the addition is done at the end of a list of five measurements rather than at each one. A window on the top of the case removes the sum.
What three meters implies
This is a fitting tape, not a surveying one. Three meters reaches across an opening, a worktop and a cupboard run, and stops well short of a room. That is a deliberate scope, and it is why the case is small enough to sit on a belt without being noticed.

What gets asked here
What does the TOP READ window solve?
Measuring the clear width of an opening, the tape case is inside the measurement. Normally you read the blade and add the case length printed on it, and the addition is where errors happen. Stabila states the window lets the internal dimension be read directly.
Is 3 m (10 ft) enough?
For fitting work, usually. For a room diagonal or a stud wall it is not, and the 5 m (16 ft) Mannesmann or a longer tape covers that.
Does it publish blade width or standout?
No. Neither figure appears in this listing, which is true of every tape in this hub.

Who should pick this one, among measuring instruments
Fitting work — windows, doors, openings — where most measurements are internal.
Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 100.
The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.

30 m (98 ft) · 12.9 mm (0.51 in) fiberglass blade · open reel · imperial and metric
A 30 m (98 ft) open-reel tape on a vinyl-coated fiberglass band, for the distances a pocket tape cannot reach. Fiberglass does not conduct and does not kink, and it does stretch.
Best for: Garden, plot and site layout, where 30 m (98 ft) matters more than the last millimeter.
5 m (16 ft) × 19 mm (0.75 in) steel blade · lever lock · impact-resistant case
A plain 5 m steel tape with a 19 mm (0.75 in) blade and a lever lock, at the lowest price in this hub. No standout figure is published — as with every tape here.
Best for: The tape to keep in the kitchen drawer, in the car, or anywhere losing it costs nothing.
