The cheapest way to make a laser line visible where you are working.
What the manufacturer publishes
High-strength ABS plastic, stated as light and durable. Front face clearly marked in inches and centimeters for easy reading. Two magnets in the underside, holding firmly to iron plates, steel nails and similar surfaces. Supplied as a pair.
What a target plate actually does
It is a tinted screen. The tint absorbs everything except the wavelength of the laser, so the line on the plate is far brighter relative to its surroundings than the same line on a wall. On a dark or wet surface that is the difference between a visible mark and a guess.
The one specification to check
Tint color. It is not stated here, and it decides whether the plate does anything at all for your laser. The Huepar plate in this hub states green explicitly.

What gets asked here
Why is a target plate needed at all?
On dark brick, glass, or anything wet, a laser line is invisible where you need it. A tinted plate makes the line jump out at the point you are marking.
Does the color of the plate matter?
Yes, and it is the specification people get wrong. A plate tinted for red does very little for a green line and the reverse is equally true. This listing does not state its tint, so check the product images before ordering.
Why two plates?
A line is set between two points. With a plate at each end you can check both without moving one, which is how a line gets set square rather than approximately.
Two plates for nine dollars — and a pair is what a level transfer needs, which single plates on this shelf cost more than.
Supplied
TWO plates, stated. A pair is what a level transfer actually takes — a plate at the datum and a plate at the far wall, so the line can be checked without moving anything — and at nine dollars for two this is the cheapest magnetic pair on this shelf, where single plates run eight to twenty-nine dollars
Functions
Stated to help locate the beam for accurate measurement away from the laser unit, and suitable for laser levels, rotary lasers, cross-line lasers, laser measures and all RED beam laser levels. Red, stated in the title and again in the last bullet — no claim to green, which this shelf's introduction says is the distinction people get wrong
Reference and mounting
Magnets for convenient attachment to metal studs, stated. Magnets are the only fixing: no hook hole and no floor stand, so no steel means no plate. Nothing is published about the magnet type
Scale
Increments in INCH and CM, stated easy to read. Whether zero sits at the center or an edge is not stated, which four plates on this shelf do publish
Stated dimension or range
Not published as a figure — stated only as small and handy enough to fit inside a laser kit, which is the right design brief and not a measurement. One plate on this shelf publishes 10 × 7 cm (3.9 × 2.8 in)
Also stated
No brightness gain figure and no reflective film is claimed. Two plates on this shelf state 1.3×, and this one describes no coating at all — so what it offers is the tint and the scale rather than a measured gain

Two plates, which is what a transfer needs
Nine dollars for the pair, the cheapest magnetic pair here
No brightness gain figure and no reflective film claimed
Best for: Setting a datum at one wall and checking it at the other, with a red laser
Magnetic and washable in one plate, which nothing else here manages — at six times the price per plate of the same maker's cards.
Reference and mounting
Strong built-in magnets for secure attachment to metal surfaces, stated. Combined with the washable material below, this is the only plate on this shelf that is BOTH magnetic and washable — the adhesive cards from the same maker are washable and not magnetic, and the five magnetic plates here say nothing about being washed
Material
Durable, water-resistant material, stated — rinse and reuse for long-term performance. On a plate that gets set on a dusty slab and then on a window, a face that can be rinsed rather than wiped is the difference between a clean target and a grey one
Functions
Stated to improve laser DOT detection in bright or long-range conditions, and designed specifically to work with the HOZO M-Cube 02 laser distance meter. Note the word dot: this is aimed at a point laser, a distance meter, rather than at a line — which is a different job from most of this shelf
Also stated
NO TINT Color, on a shelf whose tag reads "a red plate for a red line, a green plate for a green one". Neither HOZO listing here publishes one, and this shelf's introduction calls the tint the one specification people get wrong
Scale
NONE published. No increments, no center zero and no crosshair — so the plate makes a dot visible and does not help you measure from it. At least five of the ten plates on this shelf carry a scale
Stated dimension or range
Not published. The parcel weighs 68 g (2.4 oz), which is more than twice the 30 g (1.1 oz) of the plate on this shelf that does publish its size

Magnetic and washable, which nothing else here is both of
A water-resistant face that rinses rather than wipes
Twenty-nine dollars, the most expensive plate on this shelf
Best for: A HOZO M-Cube 02 owner who wants one plate that goes on steel and wipes clean
The only marker here whose holster has a drain hole — and the only one that stops both halves rolling away.
Body and fittings
A ROLL STOP on BOTH the pencil and the holster, stated. Every other marker on this shelf that addresses rolling addresses only the pencil — and a holster left on a sloping surface rolls away with the sharpener inside it, which is the half nobody else thinks about
Also stated
A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLSTER, stated to lead dirt and moisture away from the pen for longer durability. Nobody else on this shelf publishes drainage, and a closed holster on a wet day is a tube of water around a lead: it is the mechanism by which a holstered marker rots rather than wears
Functions
A sharp and accessible sharpener placed in the HOLSTER, stated, and Hultafors adds the reason: the marker is easy to remove from its holster so you do not have to let go of what you are working with. The sharpener staying behind is the point — one hand keeps hold of the work
Supplied
The dispenser is stated to double as a BLADE SNAPPER and to fit the handle of Hultafors SRP knives. A second function nobody else on this shelf has, and a real one: snapping a blunt snap-off blade without pliers is a daily job
Material
A grip-friendly ergonomic design, stated, and easy lead changes. No barrel material, no lead diameter, no lead color and no HARDNESS is published — fewer figures than any other marker here
Stated dimension or range
Not published. No tip diameter, no tip length and no lead count appears, and the shape of the holster is stated to keep the pen in place when you move

A roll stop on the holster as well as the pencil
A drain hole in the holster base, unique here
No lead diameter, so a refill is a guess
Best for: Wet and dusty work, where a holster normally turns into a reservoir
A triangular body does what a flat pencil does — it stays on the beam — and the ten leads come in a case.
Body and fittings
A TRIANGULAR-shaped barrel, stated to prevent the tool rolling away. This shelf's introduction says a flat carpenter pencil does not roll off a beam and that this is one of its two virtues; a triangle keeps that property in a mechanical body, which a round barrel does not. It is one of two anti-roll designs on this shelf
Supplied
A TEN-PACK of assorted color replacement leads in a carrying case — Klein cat. no. 86503 — alongside the marking tool itself, cat. no. 86501. Ten is the largest lead count on this shelf, where the others ship four, six or seven, and a case rather than a loose sleeve is what stops 2.8 mm (0.11 in) leads snapping in a bag
Functions
A 2.8 mm (0.11 in) lead, stated to create long-lasting marks, with a built-in sharpener to keep it sharp for precision marking. Two point eight millimeters is the common mechanical carpenter lead and one of two diameters published on this shelf
Also stated
Tough enough for OSB, wood, concrete and metal, stated. OSB is the useful one on that list: a chipped, resinous, uneven face is where a soft lead skates and a hard one gouges, and it is the surface a framing pencil actually meets
Material
Not published. No barrel material, no tip dimensions and no lead HARDNESS appears — and the leads are described only as assorted color, with not one color named. This shelf's introduction says graphite disappears on dark stone where white or red shows; this listing gives you ten leads and no way to know which is which before opening the case
Reference and mounting
Two Klein catalog numbers inside one product reference: the 80189 kit is the 86501 marking tool plus the 86503 lead pack. No belt clip is stated, where two markers on this shelf publish one

A triangular barrel: it stays where you put it
Ten replacement leads, the most on this shelf
"Assorted color" leads, with no color named
Best for: A pencil that will be put down on a joist forty times a day and still be there
