ZIBOO type K pipe temperature clamp with banana plug adapter

ZIBOO Type K pipe clamp, −40 to 200 °C (-40 to 392 °F), with adapter

A clamp that carries Klein's part number in its own title and claims double the original's range for half the price.

Type and plug fit
Type K, stated, and the BANANA PLUG ADAPTER IS INCLUDED — which is the genuine advantage over the Klein 69140, where the adapter is Cat. No. 69146 and sold separately. ZIBOO then notes that the adapter is "also sold separately (Cat. No. 69146)", quoting Klein's catalog number for a part it has put in its own box
Probe style
A PIPE CLAMP, closing round pipes from 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch — an eighth of an inch more than the Klein 69140 claims. Like that clamp, it is a style this shelf's introduction does not name among its bead, pad and rod
Stated temperature range
−40 to 392 °F (−40 to 200 °C), claimed. The Klein 69140, whose part number is in this product's title, states −4 to 212 °F (−20 to 100 °C). That is NEARLY TWICE the span, and twice the ceiling, on a copy that costs $14.99 against $26.98. Nothing on either page explains the difference, and a clamp reading 200 °C (392 °F) would reach a hot gas discharge line the original cannot
Stated accuracy
±2%, the same figure the Klein 69140 gives, followed by the same sentence: "Thermocouple accuracy is dependent on the accuracy of the meter being used." The wording of this listing follows the Klein listing bullet for bullet — wide temperature range, versatile pipe clamp, flexible lead, universal compatibility, dependable accuracy — in the same order
Cable length
39.78 inches, 102 cm, flexible. The Klein 69140 states 40 inches for the same 102 cm (40.2 in). Thirty-nine point seven eight inches is 101.04 cm (39.8 in), so the figure has been converted from the metric and given to two decimals rather than measured
Clamp capacity
Pipes 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch, then "(up to 35 cm (13.8 in))" — the same parenthesis that appears on the Klein page, where it is equally wrong. One and a half inches is 38 Millimeters. Thirty-five centimeters is not a pipe this clamp or any other on this shelf would close around
Also stated
The reference field reads 69028+69146 — two Klein Tools catalog numbers concatenated, 69146 being the banana adapter. The title opens "ZIBOO 69140 K-Type Thermometer", and 69140 is the Klein part number of the clamp sitting next to it in this same relevé. The brand on the box is ZIBOO; the part numbers on the listing are all somebody else's

What the maker puts in writing

  • “ZIBOO 69140 K-Type Thermometer, Pipe Temperature Clamp for HVAC/Multimeter … Compatible with Klein Tools”
  • “Measures temperature from -40 to 392-degrees F (-40 - 200-degrees C) with ±2% accuracy”
  • “Clamps around pipes from 1/4 to 1 ½ -Inch diameter (up to 35 cm (13.8 in))”
  • “39.78-Inch (102 cm (40.2 in)) long flexible lead”
  • “INCLUDED BANANA PLUG ADAPTER” · and “Banana plug adapter also sold separately (Cat. No. 69146)”
  • “Thermocouple accuracy is dependent on the accuracy of the meter being used”
  • Reference field: 69028+69146 · $14.99

The part number in the title belongs to the clamp next to it

69140 is Klein Tools.

The genuine Klein 69140 is on this shelf under its own name, at $26.98.

The reference field here reads 69028+69146 — two more Klein catalog numbers, 69146 being the banana adapter.

The brand on the box is ZIBOO. Every part number on the listing is somebody else’s.

And the copy claims twice the range of the original

Klein 69140: −4 to 212 °F. Minus twenty to a hundred Celsius.

This: −40 to 392 °F. Minus forty to two hundred.

Twice the ceiling, twice the span, twelve dollars cheaper, under the same number.

A type K junction is good to well past 1000 °C (1832 °F) — the Nxtop probe on this shelf states 1100 for $8.99 — so what limits a clamp is the spring, the insulation and the lead, and a 200 °C (392 °F) clamp is buildable.

Nothing on this page says the figure was measured.

Bullet for bullet, in the same order

Klein: wide temperature range · versatile pipe clamp · flexible lead · universal compatibility · dependable accuracy.

ZIBOO: wide temperature range · versatile pipe clamp · flexible lead · universal compatibility · dependable accuracy · included banana plug adapter · optional adapter available.

Including the same closing caveat, word for word: thermocouple accuracy is dependent on the accuracy of the meter being used.

And including “(up to 35 cm (13.8 in))” after a pipe diameter in inches, which is wrong on both pages — an inch and a half is 38 millimeters.

What it genuinely does better

The adapter is in the box.

“The miniature flat plug that connects it is where fit fails.”

A thermocouple plug does not fit a meter’s 4 mm (0.16 in) sockets. The Klein needs Cat. No. 69146 ordered separately. This one arrives connectable.

Thirty-nine point seven eight inches of lead, which is 101.04 cm (39.8 in) — the metric figure converted to two decimals rather than measured, but the same meter of cable as the original.

What gets asked here

Is this a Klein 69140?

No. The brand is ZIBOO and the Amazon reference is its own; what it carries is Klein's part NUMBER, in its title and in its reference field, where 69028+69146 are two further Klein catalog numbers. The genuine Klein 69140 is on this shelf under its own name at $26.98. Borrowing a part number is how a compatible accessory tells you what it stands in for — the YUNFOOK fuse on the multimeter-fuses shelf does the same thing with part 803293. The difference here is that the number names a product this site also reviews, with a different specification.

Can it really read to 200 °C (392 °F) when the part it names stops at 100 °C (212 °F)?

Possibly, and that is not the same as verified. A type K thermocouple junction is good to well over 1000 °C (1832 °F) — the Nxtop probe on this shelf states 1100 °C (2012 °F) for $8.99. What limits a pipe clamp is the spring, the insulation and the lead, not the junction. So a 200 °C (392 °F) clamp is entirely buildable. What this page does not give is any reason to believe the figure was measured rather than chosen, and the only comparison available is the original's own 100 °C (212 °F). If the reading matters above 100 °C (212 °F), verify against a second probe.

What does the included adapter save me?

An order and a wait. A thermocouple plug does not fit a multimeter's 4 mm (0.16 in) banana sockets, and the part that bridges them is Klein's Cat. No. 69146 — which this listing both includes and names as separately available. This shelf's introduction is explicit that the plug is where fit fails, so a clamp that arrives able to connect to the meter you own is worth more than its price difference suggests. Check which socket your meter has first: a dedicated thermocouple input needs no adapter at all.
