Klein Tools Meter accessory kit with 3 ft extenders

The only set here that extends: three feet of lead plus three feet of adapter, in a case you can wear.

Stated rating
CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V, stated — the same pairing as the two other Klein sets, and these three are the only CAT IV items on this shelf. The rating is given for the kit rather than itemized per part, which is worth noting on a set whose whole point is that the parts screw together
Length and reach
3-FOOT right-angle lantern-style leads PLUS 3-FOOT extension adapters — six feet, 183 cm, assembled. That is the longest reach on this shelf by a clear margin: the longest single lead here is the PUKAIBUL at 125 cm (49.2 in) and the published PeakTech is 120 cm (47.2 in). A meter hung on a magnet at the side of a cabinet while the probes reach the far end of a board is what this buys
Plugs and tips
Right-angle, LANTERN-STYLE tips, with removable threaded lead HEADS that connect either directly to the right-angle leads or to the extenders. A lantern tip is a sprung sleeve round the probe that grips a terminal rather than resting against it. No shrouding is described for the plugs
Insulation
NOT NAMED, as on both other Klein sets. This shelf's introduction compares silicone against PVC for cold flexibility, and this listing describes the case in more detail than the cable
Supplied
Two right-angle leads, two extenders, two removable lead heads, two screw-on alligator clips, and a carrying case with elastic straps for the heads, pockets for the leads and a BELT LOOP. Nine pieces and a case. 322 grams — the heaviest Klein item on this shelf
Also stated
Klein positions it as "an upgrade or replacement lead kit compatible with clamp meters, multimeters, or other test equipment with standard lead connections". The threaded heads are the mechanism that makes the kit modular: a clip, a probe head and an extender all take the same thread

NO insulation material. No tip dimensions.

Six feet, which nothing else here reaches

Three feet of lead, three feet of extender.

The longest single lead on this shelf is the PUKAIBUL at 125 cm (49.2 in). The published PeakTech is 120 cm (47.2 in).

This assembles to 183.

What that buys is a meter that stays where you hung it while the probes go to the far end of a board — which is the real constraint in a cabinet, not the measurement.

One thread, three ends

A clip. A probe head. An extender.

All three take the same screw fitting, which is what makes this a kit rather than a bundle: the lead you own becomes whichever tool the next reading needs.

Lantern tips grip

A sprung sleeve round the probe that opens over a terminal and closes on it.

The probe stops being something you press and hold and becomes something you push on and let go.

For a stud terminal, a fuse holder or a screw head that is a better connection than a point held at an angle — and it does not slide off while you look at the display.

The case is described more carefully than the cable

Elastic straps for the heads. Pockets for the leads. A belt loop.

And of the insulation: nothing. Not silicone, not PVC, as on both other Klein sets here.

“Silicone insulation stays flexible in the cold where PVC goes stiff and cracks.”

Four sets here name silicone. One names PVC. The three Klein sets name neither.

And on low ohms, null it first

Six feet of lead and two threaded joints add resistance.

For voltage and continuity it does not matter — a tenth of an ohm in series with thousands, and the meter’s input impedance makes it irrelevant.

For a winding of a few ohms it does. Short the probes, read what the meter says, and subtract it — or use the relative function, which does it for you.

What gets asked here

Do extenders affect the reading?

On voltage and continuity, not usefully — you are adding perhaps a tenth of an ohm in series with a circuit of thousands, and a modern meter's input impedance makes the lead resistance irrelevant for a voltage reading. Where it does matter is low-ohms work: if you are measuring a few ohms of winding, six feet of lead and two extra threaded joints add resistance you must null out first, by shorting the probes together and noting what the meter reads. Any meter with a relative or zero function does that for you.

Is fifty dollars reasonable against the twenty-dollar pairs?

It depends whether you need the reach and the thread. The 69410 at $19.97 gives you a rated pair and removable clips. This gives the same rating plus a doubling of reach, threaded heads that let a clip, a probe or an extender share one fitting, lantern tips that grip, and a case with a belt loop. If your meter sits where you put it and the circuit comes to you, the cheaper pair is enough. If you work in cabinets with the meter hanging and the probes three feet away, nothing else on this shelf does it.

What is a lantern tip?

A sprung metal sleeve around the probe that opens to let a terminal or a bolt in and then closes on it. The probe is no longer something you press and hold; it is something you push on and let go. For a stud terminal, a fuse holder or a screw head it is a far better connection than a point held at an angle, and it does not slide off when you look away at the display. Klein calls these "lantern-style" and supplies removable 4 mm (0.16 in) lantern tips as a threaded head, which is why the same lead can become a clip instead.
