What the manufacturer publishes

A chalk line set with 30 m (98 ft) of marking line and red chalk for durable, water-resistant lines. Permanent marking. A robust body. Also offered with blue chalk described as temporary.

Permanent is a commitment

On a flat roof, a concrete slab or an external wall, a temporary line is gone by the next shower and the setting-out has to be repeated. Permanent chalk is the correct answer there.

On plaster, on a finished floor, on anything that will be seen — the same chalk is a mistake you cannot undo. This is one of the very few consumables on this site where the wrong choice is not recoverable.

The convention worth following

Blue and white for inside, red for outside. It is not universal across brands, but it is common enough that reaching for the red reel indoors should feel wrong.

Availability

Catalogued and unsold: the American Amazon shop lists the reference with nobody behind it.

What gets asked here

Permanent or temporary — how do I choose?

By where the line goes. Permanent chalk survives rain on a roof or a slab, and it also survives being wrong on a finished wall. Temporary blue or white brushes and washes off, which is what interior work needs.

Can I change the chalk in a reel?

Yes, and it is worth having two reels rather than swapping — residue of the previous color stays in the case and on the line for a long time.

What does 150 g (5.3 oz) get me?

A great many lines. Chalk consumption is low; the reason to buy more is that a reel run dry mid-job snaps a faint line that has to be done twice.
