A handheld detector publishing two separate measuring ranges — 5 to 50% for wood and 1.5 to 33% for building materials — with a hold function for readings taken out of sight.
What the figures leave us with Two honest ranges and a hold function. No accuracy figure, and a surface reading is all it claims.
A meter that states what it measures and where.
What the manufacturer publishes
A robust, handy moisture meter for determining the moisture content at the surface of wood or building materials such as concrete. A practical hold function allowing measurement in hard-to-reach places. A measuring range of 5 to 50% for wood and 1.5 to 33% for building materials. Automatic switch-off approximately three minutes after last use.
Reading a moisture meter honestly
The number is a comparison, not a diagnosis. Take a reading somewhere you believe is dry and use it as your reference; the meaningful result is the difference between that and the suspect area. An absolute figure on its own establishes nothing about where water is coming from, and this site does not suggest otherwise.
What surface measurement excludes
A damp patch on a wall may be a surface condensation problem or a structural one, and a surface reading cannot separate them. The 40 mm (1.57 in) depth meters in this hub reach further; interpreting what they find is still a matter for someone qualified.

What it has, and what it lacks
Strengths
Publishes both ranges separately: wood 5–50%, building materials 1.5–33%
A hold function, which is what makes a reading behind a radiator or under a floor readable
Automatic switch-off after about three minutes
A robust handheld body from an established brand
On sale across all six markets
Compromises
No accuracy figure published
Surface measurement only, per the maker
No species or material sub-scales, unlike the GERUI

What gets asked here
Why publish two ranges?
Because wood and masonry hold very different amounts of water at the same condition. A single 0–100 scale hides that; two stated ranges tell you what a number means for what you are holding it against.
What does surface measurement mean?
Brennenstuhl states the meter determines moisture content at the surface of wood or building materials such as concrete. A surface reading does not tell you about moisture deeper in the material, which is why the depth-rated meters in this hub state 40 mm (1.57 in).
Why does hold matter?
Half the places worth measuring cannot be seen while measuring — behind a radiator, under a unit, in a corner. Hold freezes the value so the meter can be withdrawn and read.
